Planting, Reading, Watching

Planting tomatoes, planting onions, planting herbs, planting flowers. We love this time of year. Mr. X LOVES this time of year. He has become a master at growing vegetables in pots since we live in a town home and space is limited. And Topsy Turvy's are frowned upon by our association.

Anyways, several different kinds of tomatoes and peppers. 

Some basil from seeds. It worked really well last year so we're hoping for the same results this year.

And plenty of onions. Mr. X made these wooden boxes last year and they were perfect for growing onions on our back porch.

Times of Valen

Happy Valentine's Day! Or ValenTIME'S Day as Mr. X calls it. I was surprised this morning by a chalkboard full of love. What a great way to start the day. We went to see the movie Red Tails tonight and it was fantastic.

Weekend Memories

I will remember two things from this past weekend...

First, how amazingly beautiful the weather and trees are right now.

And second, meeting our friend Shannon's new baby, Kellan, for the fist time and seconds after taking this photo he peed on Chris.

Rollergirl + Leftovers

Last night we went to The Second City to see South Side of Heaven and look who was standing in line behind us. Yep, Heather Graham. And when I say behind us I mean like 3 steps away. Surprisingly Chris got up the courage to ask for a photo when he ran into her in the lobby during intermission. I know the photo looks like he was Photoshopped in. Maybe we can Photoshop his eyes to look semi normal.

And now my brother and his girlfriend are headed back to the west coast and we are left with leftovers. The last five days were filled with adventure and I'll share photos when I come out of my food coma.

Life With Chris

Life with Chris, aka Mr. X, is never boring. I could dedicate an entire blog to silly songs he makes up on a daily basis. Or the names he makes up for people, including his closest friends. Or the silly prank phones calls I get while at work. Even though I know it's him calling, I can't help but laugh.

One thing I really love about him is his ability to make me smile when I am sad.

Sunday morning I woke up to his potless pot roast* cooking in the crock pot. One of his favorite meals especially during football season. I do not particularly like it nor do I like the smell it creates in the house. I don't eat beef and when the entire house smells like beef I sometimes feel like throwing up. BUT, I've learned to deal with it. I sat down to watch the 9/11 specials on TV and started sobbing on and off for about 2 hours. To distract myself, I moved to working on the computer while watching CNN.com read off the names on the 9/11 memorial. Then Mr. X woke up and walked around the corner. I looked up at him, started crying and said "don't get me started". Of course he was like "okaaay" and headed downstairs. About 5 minutes later he comes back up and says "are you really that upset about the smell of my potless pot roast?"

*Potless Pot Roast is basically a vegetable stew. Potatoes, onions, carrots and seasonings cooked in beef broth for hours....everything except the meat. 

The Garden

Friday Finds

Mr. X ventured out to an estate sale this afternoon by himself and I was excited to come home after work to see what he found. OK, honestly I was more nervous than excited. But anyways, here are his purchases...

Folk Songs Sing Along with Mitch record. Not sure who Mitch is but super excited to listen to it. An artillery shell from World War II to add to his collection. Nice. A wooden cutting board...??  Kinda random, but cool. And a Charles Dickens book from 1957 for me. Love that.
